More and more people are turning to power banks to stay connected while on the move and it's easy to see why. According to Google Trends,
interest in the search term 'Powerbank' has doubled over the past five months
(as of 17th July 2025). This surge in demand aligns with the start of festival season and summer travel, when staying powered up on the go becomes essential.

With more options on the market than ever before and interest in the search term 'Powerbank' up by almost 40% compared to this time last year (as of 17th July 2025), it's becoming increasingly important to choose (and use) power banks safely.

Mark Robinson, Regional Director of Product Management (EMEA) at Belkin, shares his tips on choosing and using power banks responsibly:

1.Beware of cheap power banks.

• "Stick to trusted brands and reputable retailers—look for safety markings like CE or UKCA. Cheaper power banks often cut corners on quality and safety.

2. On the plane and on holiday.

• "When you're on the aircraft, make sure you don't lose your power bank down the side of your seat where it could get damaged by the seat mechanism."
  
  
• "Take care of your power bank. Use undamaged and certified cables and store your power bank somewhere cool and ventilated."
  
  
• "Water and electronics don't mix. Store your power bank away from pools, drinks, and rain to stay safe. If you take it to the beach, keep it cool, dry and out of the sand."

3. Tips for festival goers.

• "Keep power banks out of your bedding and away from direct sunlight, especially in the heat. Excessive warmth can cause it to overheat or degrade."
  
  
• "Make sure you have the right power bank on hand. Smartphones are powerful and have big batteries. If you want to charge your phone 2-3 times, buy a 10,000 mAh power bank. If you want to charge 4-6 times, buy a 20,000 mAh power bank. If you're sharing a power bank with others or you want it to last, go for 25,000 – 27,000 mAh."
