Donkey Kong Bananza is an all-new 3D platforming game, launching exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17th. DK punches, grabs, tosses, climbs, smashes, and flexes his strength as he explores the depths of this wild action adventure together with his new friend Pauline.
Donkey Kong Bananza kicks off in Ingot Isle, where the discovery of the century has just been made within its cavernous depths: golden bananas. However, just before DK can indulge in the gilded treats, a tempest sends him hurtling deep underground. There, he meets a mysterious new ally in Odd Rock – who isn’t a rock at all but turns out to be a talented young singer named Pauline. Together, the pair explore a vast Underground World and set course for the Planet Core, which legend says has the power to grant your heart’s desire.
The Void Company, a villainous mining operation whose reach extends through every layer of the planet, also has its sights on the Planet Core. VoidCo is not only responsible for the banana-stealing maelstrom that sent Donkey Kong hurtling underground in the first place, but they are also responsible for turning Pauline into Odd Rock.
As Donkey Kong you will be able to utilise powerful abilities to smash your way through obstacles and enemies and even unearth discoveries. These abilities can be combined for maximum mayhem. Also, Pauline can enhance Donkey Kong’s destructive ability and make him temporarily transform into new animal forms through the power of her singing. Collecting gold builds up Bananergy, which allows Pauline’s singing to activate the transformations. They include Kong Bananza which makes Donkey Kong super strong, Zebra Bananza which makes him faster and lets him dash for short distances and Ostrich Bananza which allows DK to fly and drop Egg Bombs on enemies.
Golden bananas called Banandium Gems are buried behind walls, under the ground, and sometimes right out in the open. Collecting these Banandium Gems provide Skill Points that increase DK’s power and even allow him to learn new Skills. There are many more collectibles to be found, including Fossils, which can be taken to the Style Shops and traded for different fashions for Donkey Kong and Pauline, as well as fur colours for DK. Almost all the different fashions come with useful extra benefits too.
Donkey Kong Bananza can be played solo or in co-op with a friend*1. Pauline’s vocal blasts can be unleashed using the Joy-Con 2 controller’s mouse functionality. Players can also use GameShare*2 to share the game and play in co-op with another player locally even if they don’t have the game themselves. In addition to sharing locally to a Nintendo Switch 2 console, the game can also be shared locally to a Nintendo Switch console. Additionally, it’s possible to invite friends online with GameChat*3 to join a play session via voice or video chat.
Donkey Kong Bananza also supports amiibo. A Donkey Kong and Pauline amiibo figure will be available on July 17th which unlocks Pauline’s in-game Diva Dress early and gives players KONG tiles with explosive power.
