Antec Sonata Plus 550

Christopher Fredriksson

When unpacking the Sonata Plus 550 you find out that it’s covered with a cloth like cover to protect its mirror like surfaces. Unwrap that and you find a case with a front that looks like OEM computers, like HP or Packard Bell.

Even though their cases mostly don’t look great at all, this case does and offers a lot of features that the real OEM chassis don’t.

The design team at Antec has spent every hour given well when designing this case. You have front ports in the bottom right of the front panel as well as HDD activity led, reset button and a backlit power button.

Apart from this we find 4 drive bays and despite the 3.5 inch drive bay visible they all are usable as 5.25 inch drive bays, more on this later on.

If we turn the case around and take a look at the back we find out that the power supply is already fitted, we have a default IO-face plate, 7 expansion slots, a large 120mm exhaust fans and some vent holes under that.

Something that I really like with this case is that there are incorporated thumbscrews, however only for the right side. But they are easy to use and you’ll never loose them.

When we throw the case onto its side we find the underside of the case and as said before, we find a close to mirror like surface even here. Together with four rubber feet’s this must be one of the most stylish case bottoms I’ve ever seen.

Under the front panel we can also see some ventilation holes, good work Antec with adding vent holes in hidden places so we don’t notice them! ;)

On next page we’ll dig into this case and have a look on the features on the inside.
